About Mirasol
The Mirasol Project is named after a young Quechua girl who, with her brother, tends 350 alpacas. Like many other children in this part of sierra of the Andes Mountains of Peru near Lake Titicaca they are deprived of some basic rights that we often take for granted: education, nourishing food and basic healthcare.
The project is based on Fairtrade: a principle that is very important to Stitchville. Fairtrade guarantees that disadvantaged producers in the developing world get a better deal for their products. The producers receive a price that covers the cost of sustainable production plus an extra premium that is invested in social or economic development projects such as the Mirasol Project. A percent of the price of every skein goes back to the community and makes difference to people who are producing these gorgeous yarns.
The Mirasol Project has inspired Stitchville to launch The Mirasol Collection For Children. The patterns can be purchased here.
We are currently discontinuing Mirasol, so every skein is discounted. |
